What is the Goal of Physical Therapy?
Physical therapists evaluate and treat abnormal physical function following an injury, surgery, or other health condition. As experts in movement, PTs are able to identify all the contributing factors to thoroughly navigate all aspects of your complaint to improve range of motion, and strength to improve pain, function and independence.
The focus in treatment is providing patients with education regarding their dysfunction and the strategies to fix it. Manual therapy techniques, soft tissue massage and therapeutic exercises will be primary utilized to promote improved movement and pain reduction.
The therapeutic exercises are focused on tools and techniques that can easily be carried out at home without special equipment to provide long lasting results.
What is a Physical Therapy Visit Like?
During your physical exam, there will be a thorough evaluation of movement, flexibility, and strength related to the chief complaint. A clinical diagnosis, prognosis, and plan of care with short and long term goals will be made with patient involvement to ensure all concerns are adequately addressed.
Individualized therapy will be provided in a quiet one-on-one setting, utilizing evidence based strategies to maximize strength, range of motion, pain reduction and functional independence. Additional services under physical therapy include pre and post surgical rehabilitation, therapeutic massage, wound care, therapeutic exercises, and pelvic floor therapy.
